Tool Kit: National Scenic Byways Program

Scenic Byways are an important part of the tourism program for states and communities across the Southeast. In fact, all 12 STS member states have a federally designated Scenic Byway or All-American Road. Although the National Scenic Byways Program has been inactive for six years, it continues to hold support within tourism communities and Congress. Recognizing the ongoing importance of the National Scenic Byways Program, Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) and Rep. Ted Poe (R-Tex) introduced legislation, H.R. 5158, to reopen the nominations process for the National Scenic Byways Program.

STS encourages its members to reach out to their congressional representatives to ask them to co-sponsor H.R. 5158.

Tool Kit: NPS Deferred Maintenance

As Congress debates the Fiscal Year 2019 Budget, now is the time to contact your congressional representatives to encourage them to make addressing the National Parks deferred maintenance backlog a priority.

Tool Kit: Explore America Act

A bipartisan and geographically diverse group of Senators have come together to empower gateway communities to better tell their stories and drive visitation and increased spending. Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI), Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) have introduced “The Explore America Act”. This Act will authorize the provision of technical assistance under the Preserve America Program to direct the Secretary of the Interior to enter into partnerships with communities, adjacent to units of the National Park System, to leverage local cultural and heritage tourism assets.  Now is the time to contact your congressional representatives to encourage them to support "The Explore America Act".
